On Minutes with Mike, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with Caroline Walker, Leslie Ann Hall, Jen Bickerton, and Lauren Kahn, four incredible leaders in the beauty sector. Five themes rose to the surface:
1. You don’t need to “have it all figured out.” So many young professionals feel crushing pressure to map out their entire future. But focusing on treating yourself (and others) with kindness and patience is the true game changer. Growth isn’t linear—and it’s never on a deadline.
2. Relationships are your lifelong currency. Every teacher, coach, friend, and part-time job boss can become the bridge to your next opportunity. Strong networks aren’t built in conference rooms; they’re built in everyday moments where you show up, deliver, and stay connected.
3. Ask. Ask again. And keep asking. Especially for women, the fear of hearing “no” often stops us before we start. But people are far more willing to help than we expect, if we simply dare to ask.
4. Presence is the new power. In a world of constant notifications, one of the most striking insights came from a conversation about “absent presence”: being physically with people but mentally somewhere else. True connection requires intention and a commitment to being present in both life and work.
5. The importance of healthy boundaries. As we grow in our careers, we start to notice who truly respects our time and our value. Setting healthy boundaries and saying no to people or environments that don’t align is not just self-protection. It’s a sign of growth.
Here are the episodes, enjoy~
